FASHION DESIGNER

PROJECT STATEMENT
The concept of this project surrounds the relationships and social bonds between ainmals, particularly predatory creatures, and the importances of these bonds for their survival. Upon doing research I found just how intensely these animals can feel and how similar they are to us. After watching Netflix’s ‘Blackfish’ documentary, I was compelled by the whale’s stories and what they went through and the conditions they were put in for them to become entertainment
for us.
While creating this collection, what happens to these animals and many like them were always at the front of my mind, and this collection is a tribute to them in attempts to trigger -
thoughts and rethink how our actions may be affecting animals such as the orcas from SeaWorld.
I want to express that indeed these wild creatures are magnificent but they are just that, “wild” and they should respectfully stay that way in their environments.
The aesthetic of this collection corresponds to the natural world and orcas. With iridescent blue fabric to mirror the shimmer of changing light that the ocean creates. And a hand painted print that stemmed from the wrinkles in the skin of an elephant. While designing I like to combine elements of comfort and style which is often seen in streetwear.
